His Eye Is on the Sparrow!

OK, In case you can't figure it out, just crazy about Jesus. I try really hard to pattern my day after Him. I don't always get that done, but that's why He died! I am a sinner! Jesus died for my sin.

I have to set up this song that has been on my mind all week. There is a man here in Lockney named Dee Copeland. Brother Dee is one of the most Christ-Like men I have ever known. He is 99 years old and will be 100 in October, Lord willing. He still drives himself and lives alone. His wife, who past about 7 or 8 years ago, was my 3rd grade teacher here. She taught my granddad out north of Lockney at the old Prairie Chapel school. She taught my dad and my uncle in the 3rd grade here. Brother Dee is one of those old time song leaders. After a pitch on his pipe, you get the "Do, So". For those of you who are song leaders, that may mean something. I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but I love good singing. Oh, and did I tell you, He still sits on the city council here in Lockney and still leads singing on occasion. Once, not long ago, he was still on the chamber of commerce with us. As we were leaving I asked him "Brother Dee, whatcha goin todo today?". He replied, "I'm going to deliver lunch to the old folks.". Russell Harris, who is now a Gospel Preacher in Wills Point, Texas, and I laughed and asked "Brother Dee, how many of 'em's older than you". He said "none of them".

Dee Copeland is a true Christian. Understands the Gospel. Understands Faith and Grace. His wife understood too. They are "those" people that you never question when they pass on, where they are going. They are very confident in where they are going.

Now, take out your standard issue, Church of Christ, blue cover hymnal. "Praise for the Lord". Turn to song 235, two hundred thirty five. "His Eye Is on the Sparrow"

1. Why should i feel discouraged, Why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, And Long for heav'n and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is he: His Eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

2. Let not your heart be troubled, His tender word I hear, And resting on his goodness, I lose my doubts and fears, Tho' by the path he leadeth, But one step I may see: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

3. When ever I am tempted, When ever clouds arise, When song gives place to sighing, when hope within me dies, I draw the closer to him; From care He sets me free; His eye is on the sparrow and I know He cares for me.

Refrain: I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, For his on is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me!

I hope that I haven't broken any copyright laws there. But if I did, it was because of HIM!

I have heard Brother Dee lead this song since I was a kid. He is the only person I have heard lead this song. The words mean much more to me now than they used to. How much love and mercy Christ has for us! Even a sinner like ME!
